Should my agent or tour operator be advising me on entry requirements for the countries I want to visit?

Your travel agent or tour operator should be providing you with expert advice on travel, but entry requirements can be tricky because they can change frequently and without notice. It may also depend on your nationality and the passport you are using. In fact, an agent’s or operator’s terms and conditions may state the traveller is solely responsible for meeting all entry requirements for the countries they will be visiting.

It is highly recommended you make specific enquiries about visa entry requirements for the destinations to which you are travelling. In some cases, this includes where you have a transferring flight connection. Talk to your travel agent or tour operator about this, but the responsibility for having the correct travel documents rests with you.

The most up-to-date advice can be obtained from the embassy or consular office for the country you intend to visit. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT) Smartraveller website has contact information for the various consulates and embassies throughout Australia.
