I need to change or cancel an airline booking and they want to charge me more money. Is that allowed?

Yes. Airlines will charge fees for name changes, flight changes and cancellation, which may be significant in value. In many instances, airline tickets are non-refundable. Always check the conditions of your ticket prior to purchase. Where you have opted for a cheaper ticket, it will cost more if you make changes or cancel.

In addition to airline fees, a travel agent may charge an additional service fee to facilitate changes or cancellations. This fee will also be outlined in the terms and conditions you accept when you initially purchase travel from the agent.

Complaints regarding airline fees will generally be classified as ineligible for review. In such instances, you can contact the Airline Customer Advocate.
