Do I need travel insurance?

It is strongly recommended you take out travel insurance, especially when travelling overseas.

Read your insurance policy closely and make sure you know what it covers. Different insurance policies cover different circumstances, and you may not be covered for pre-existing conditions, so it is best to check first. Coverage may or may not include:

  • Medical emergencies;
  • Cancellation of trip;
  • Deposit insurance;
  • Insolvency of end supplier;
  • Covid-19 coverage

Did you know? According to DFAT, daily hospital costs in Southeast Asia regularly exceed $800 and the cost of medical evacuations from the United States of America regularly range from $75,000 to $95,000 and sometimes up to $300,000. Travellers who are not covered by travel insurance are personally liable for covering the medical and associated costs they incur overseas.
